The ballistic underwear is part of the Modular Ballistic Protection and Carrying Equipment (MOBAST) . It consists of the “ballistic underpants,” “ballistic T-shirt,” and “ballistic tube scarf” components. The ballistic underwear is worn under combat clothing and is designed to protect soldiers against injuries caused by small fragments and sand, such as those that occur during IED attacks.

The manufacturer cites the underwear’s “high ballistic retention” and “fragment protection.” Studies by the Dutch TNO Institute have demonstrated that the ballistic underwear is capable of effectively protecting the wearer from secondary fragments. This minimizes injury patterns and reduces wound contamination.
